CONMELEON C1 @ 7th 4DIAC User Workshop

CONMELEON was invited to join the 7th 4DIAC Users Workshop taking place during the Emerging Technology and Factory Automation conference in Berlin on the 7th of september this year. Please visit the official conference website  www.etfa2016.org for more details about the conference proceedings.

CONMELEON was demonstrating a little home automation environment, with the CONMELEON C1 device running a 4DIAC FORTE runtime system and a MQTT broker setup to communicate with an openHAB server. The openHAB app was used to control the LED lights with a smartphone. You can find some more information on the setup, by reading the interesting article on www.myembedded.de. The article is written in german language, sorry guys!

The crowd was very interested and a lot of interesting talks took place.

A big thanks goes to the 4DIAC project group, for making this possible.

Finally the integration of the CONMELEON C1 hardware drivers into the q4PLC runtime version 1.5 RC is finished.

q4Logix can now be used to program the C1 PLC according to IEC61131 standard, and the best thing about it is that you can use your favorite webbrowser to do the programming.

We just had a first glimpse on our brand new 3D printed enclosure for the CONMELEON C1 board. Looks really nice, doesn't it?

3D printing in this size is not exactly easy, but we are satisfied with the result. The enclosure also has a DIN rail mount option on the back and can be integrated into exisiting cubicles easily.

The first brand new CONMELEON C1 boards have arrived from the PCB manufacturer. The soldering is going on at the moment and we are expecting the first ones to enter the testing cycle in the beginning of may.

Revenge of the Berry

In february 2O15 the Raspberry Pi Foundation launched the Raspberry Pi 2 B, which has got much more power than it's family members and it still comes at a very low price of 35 bucks. It now has a Quad Core ARM Cortex A7 heart beating at 9OO MHz and 1 GB RAM, which makes it perfect as a new base for CONMELEON. We redesigned our C1 IO board to be compatible with the new Raspberry Pi and the 4DIAC FORTE runtime is already running on the first Raspberry Pi 2 boards. So far so good, big things can be expected.

Check out EclipseSCADA

EclipseSCADA is a powerful "toolbox" or framework to build a custom SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system. It consists of multiple components like protocol drivers, classic SCADA functionality (data aggregation, alarms & events, database support) and user interface support. Currently we are evaluating EclipseSCADA in connection with the CONMELEON PLC running 4DIAC FORTE. The connection to the EclipseSCADA server is made with 4DIAC publisher and subscriber function blocks using the SFP (Small Footprint Protocol) of EclipseSCADA.

The big advantage of the concept is it's flexibility. Multiple CONMELEON PLC's can connect to a single EclipseSCADA server, but also everything can run on a single device.
